Technical Description Reflection

Before completing this assignment, I barely had any knowledge of how a record player worked. Looking back at my draft, I had the structure and research laid out, but it still needed to be polished. When revising my work, I had to do a very detailed research to find how the internal components and external components worked. I did this by reading articles and looking at diagrams. I tried to explain the record player to someone who doesn’t know anything about it, pretty much like explaining it to a 10 year old child. I can confidently say that the “explain it to a child” assignment helped me when I was completing my technical description. Additionally the in class activity that we did- putting together the parts of a technical description- was a big help. One of the challenges I faced was trying to simplify the process. I solved this problem by breaking it down to steps. I believe I met the expectations for this assignment, because my description was detailed and easy to follow. I focused on making my transitions smoother and avoided any repetition. I also made sure to keep my tone consistent without making the sentences sound forced. If I had to do this assignment all over again, I would talk about the different types of record players. Overall, this assignment helped me understand both the product and the process of writing a technical description. In the end, I am happy with how it turned out.
